భగ్గుమన్న అనంతపురం

After a brief lull, violence flared up in the district today with protestors torching Railway Kalyana Mandapam. The arrest of fasting TDP MLAs and leaders Paritala Sunitha, BK Parthasarathi, Palle Raghunatha Reddy, Varadapuram Suri and Mahalakshmi Srinivas sparked widespread protests.

The police forcibly shifted the fasting TDP leaders to government hospital following deterioration of their health.

Though the police made a bid to shift Sunitha from the fast camp at the Clock Tower to hospital late last night, TDP activists foiled it.

Denouncing the arrest of the fasting leaders, TDP activists staged a sit-in on the road. The police dispersed the protestors by using force. They resorted to mild lathicharge to bring the situation under control.

The police said 10 unidentified miscreants barged into Railway Kalyana Mandapam at Anantapur railway station and set it on fire after sprinkling petrol. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and extinguished the flames. The loss of property was estimated at Rs 4 lakh.

Meanwhile, some miscreants set ablaze the BSNL office on Gooty road. The staff immediately called the fire tenders and the flames were doused before causing much damage.
